Optic Nook

Prescriptions & verification

Contact lenses are regulated under the FTC Contact Lens Rule. We only fulfill contacts when you provide a valid prescription copy or we complete verification with your prescriber.

How to present your Rx

  1. Upload a photo or PDF of your prescription (preferred).
  2. Enter the values manually from your Rx or lens boxes.
  3. Contact my doctor — authorize us to verify with your eye-care provider (we contact them with a complete request).

We always offer upload and manual entry before asking for doctor contact information.

Verification timing

When we verify with a prescriber, we send a complete verification request (email when available, with a secure response link). They have eight business hours (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. in their time zone, excluding U.S. federal holidays) to confirm, correct, or deny with an explanation. If they do not respond in time, the Contact Lens Rule allows passive verification and we may fulfill the order. We keep records of requests and responses for at least three years.

Glasses vs contacts

A glasses prescription is not a contacts prescription. We never auto-copy one to the other. Contacts brands on your Rx are binding (with limited private-label exceptions under the Rule).

Order holds

Orders that need a prescription stay on hold until review or verification succeeds. We will not ship optical products while the prescription gate is blocked.

Online vision test

You can also complete an online vision test on Optic Nook (coming soon). A licensed Optic Nook payroll doctor reviews your results and, when appropriate, issues a prescription.
